PRODUCT GUIDE FOR SKINWAVE
For a multi-function device like the Skinwave™, the products you choose are just as important as the technology itself. Because the device uses Microcurrents, EMS, and Electroporation, it requires a conductive medium to allow those electrical pulses to travel into the skin safely and effectively.
Here is a breakdown of why gel-based products are your best bet and which specific types work best.
Why Water-Based Gels?
Oil is an insulator, meaning it blocks electricity. If you use a heavy face oil or a cream with high lipid content, the microcurrents and EMS pulses will simply "bounce off" the surface, and you won’t feel the stimulation.
Water-based gels act as the "bridge," allowing the energy to pass through the skin barrier to the muscles and deeper dermal layers without any "zapping" or discomfort.
Best Compatible Product Types
1. Hyaluronic Acid Gels & Serums
This is the gold standard for devices like the Skinwave. Hyaluronic acid (HA) is a humectant that holds massive amounts of water, making it incredibly conductive.
Why it works: It keeps the skin "wet" longer, which is necessary for the device to glide smoothly.
K-Beauty Tip: Look for "Aloe Soothing Gels" or "Hyaluronic Seaweed Gels." These are often inexpensive and perfect for the "slather-on" approach needed for a full session.
2. Aloe Vera Gel (Oil-Free)
Pure aloe vera gel is a fantastic, cost-effective conductive medium. It is naturally soothing and has a high water content.
Pro-Tip: Ensure the aloe gel doesn't have added alcohol, which can dry out too quickly during your 5-minute treatment.
3. Peptide-Rich "Booster" Gels
Since the Skinwave’s Electroporation (SOOTHE mode) and Microcurrent (REVIVE mode) enhance product absorption, using a gel with Peptides or Collagen is a smart move.
The Benefit: The device "pushes" these firming ingredients deeper into the skin, maximizing their anti-aging effects.
From our personals experience, our favourite produce to use with the Skinwave device is COSRX Advanced Snail 96 Mucin Power Essence. The aloe vera gel many other water based gels may begin to form a thin layer of film on your skin if applying more than one layer. However, the snail mucin essence will never leave a layer. You can use as much as you want without having to worry about the it flaking off.
4. Water-Based "Conductive" Gels
There are professional conductive gels specifically formulated for beauty devices. These usually contain electrolytes (like sodium or magnesium) which further enhance the flow of electricity.
What to Avoid During Use
To keep your Skinwave™ in top shape and ensure the treatment works:
No Oils: Avoid squalane, jojoba, or oil-based serums until after you’ve finished with the device.
No Silicones: Some primers or gels have high dimethicone content; these can act as a barrier to the electrical current.
No Exfoliating Acids (AHA/BHA): While great for skin, using them during a microcurrent or electric-needle session (PURE mode) can cause excessive irritation. Save your acids for your off-days or apply them after the device ritual.
